Dr. Christmas is a retired employee of UF/IFAS who had a 32 year career in extension. He served as an agent in Orange County, Florida, where he led a very successful 4-H program during his initial tenure. He coached state winning poultry and dairy judging teams and developed a multitude of state congress award winners. He later became the county livestock and field crops specialist. After seven years on the county level, he returned to the University of Florida to pursue a PhD in animal nutrition and management. He served as a student assistant to the IFAS Vice-President during the tenure of these studies. As a volunteer Dr. Christmas has also judged a multitude of 4-H and youth poultry shows and has supported both 4-H and community youth programs as an advisor, committee member and fund raiser.
Other highlights of his 4-H career include: Authoring more than 150 abstracts, articles and scientific publications and was senior author on over 90 percent of them, opened a facility for area 4-H and FFA judging teams with at least two area FFA teams and three or more 4-H teams becoming state champions, gave leadership to Ag in the Classroom programs with farm tours and training sessions and recruited local teachers to attend AITC, responsible for the first drafting of the original SHARE brochure.
He and his wife, Addie Ann, have been married for 52 years and have four adult sons and 16 grandchildren. All of the sons were extremely active in youth agricultural programs serving as local and state officers as well as state and national winners in poultry judging and vegetable crop production. Three sons are graduates of CALS, and two grandchildren are currently students of CALS at the University of Florida.
